As a Jew, I say Jews are idiots.

And Mona Charen (also a Jew) backs me up.

I’ve heard from some American Jews that they do not believe Obama is sincere in his leftism. They believe/hope that the anti-Israel sentiments and associations of his past were purely opportunistic; that once in the White House he will shed them like yesterday’s fashions. That’s quite a leap of faith.

You bet it is. And:

[American Jews] surely know about Jeremiah Wright. They know that he gave a “lifetime achievement” award to Louis Farrakhan; that he supported efforts to get U.S. businesses to divest from Israel; that he gave space in the Trinity Church bulletin to Hamas; and that he has accused Israel of “genocide” against the Palestinians. They are preparing to vote for a man who tamely tolerated all of that (and more) for 20 years.

Yep. But not me, thank God.
On the other hand, my mother and my wife are both completely out of their minds. My mother thinks Sarah Palin is an idiot (and said so in so many words in my presence) and my wife is more than likely going to vote for Obama strictly because he’s a Democrat. Actually I have no idea how my wife is going to vote and she won’t tell me, either now or after the election. But I know my wife, and there would be a McCain/Palin sign in our front yard if she were going to vote for McCain.
The sad thing is that if Hillary had been the nominee, I am morally certain they would both have either not voted, or voted for McCain.
Like them, too damn many Reform and Conservative Jews have soaked up the social justice and anti-Religious Right bullshit that’s been taught in our religious school classrooms in the place of real religious education since the 1980’s. And now they’re going to vote based on that education for a man who is the most egregious crypto-Marxian socialist since FDR to be one of the major party nominees.
My co-religionists are, by and large, totally blind politically, and they’ve done it to themselves. The only saving grace are the vast majority of the Orthodox community, and the few politically-conservative non-Orthodox Jews I know.
The rest will realize what a mistake they’ve made soon enough if The Obama is elected.

  1. Thanks for giving me a little insight on the Jewish-democrat thing. I’ve beat my head in trying to understand it. Would it take the complete destruction of Israel, or Louie Farrakhan in a cabinet seat to make the Jews wake-up and realize they’re (dems) not your friends, whatsoever. To me it’s like the black folk never straying from the dem plantation.

  2. And by the way, I’m Catholic (with deep Irish bloodline), so I’ve seen the slavish devotion displayed to the democrat party. Fortunately, the dems are losing sway, big time, with that particular group. My 83 year-old grandmother voted early, and pulled the R lever for pres for the first time in her life. She loves babies, and all of a sudden she realizes her party not real fond of letting them live. The whole putting baby aside to die was the final straw.

  3. Tanya, that’s exactly it. The cognitive dissonance between love of Israel and partisan fervor for the man and the party who would be most likely to feed Israel to the wolves is simply mind-boggling.
I’ve been trying to reconcile this for the past 25 years. So far I haven’t succeeded.
