I was going to post this elsewhere

but I thought it might be a bit, hmm, non-conducive to brotherly love and fellowship. It was in response to a bunch of Mac fanbois making fun of Windows, as usual.
I’m sorry, but you guys who claim constantly that the Mac is more stable than Windows obviously don’t run my stable of extremely stable Windows machines. Even my wife’s machine is clean, because I’ve indoctrinated her not to click on random links 🙂
I’ve been known to go a month between reboots with XP (current uptime on my workstation: \\NACHBAR has been up for: 12 day(s), 19 hour(s), 31 minute(s), 30 second(s)), and I have a Win2K server that just sort of sits here and runs and runs and runs, even though it has more software loaded on it than Heinz has pickles (\\NATHAN2 has been up for: 23 day(s), 2 hour(s), 34 minute(s), 20 second(s)). My telecommuter machine in DC has been up longer than that (\\HOBBES has been up for: 51 day(s), 7 hour(s), 14 minute(s), 13 second(s)). All of these boxes are fully patched and have current anti-virus.
[A local university] once had a Win2K server running my company’s software that wasn’t rebooted for over a year, and was only rebooted then because they upgraded the software.
Are there people out there who have Windows boxes that blue-screen constantly? Sure. But I’ll bet they don’t take the same care of their machines that I do. They’re probably virus- and worm-ridden and probably aren’t patched anywhere near current levels. Moreover they’re probably the zombie boxes that pound on my mail servers all the time. Home users + Windows + 24/7 high speed internet = big problems.
You can have stable, uncompromised Windows boxes. You can have a perfectly-running automobile with a hundred thousand miles on it, too. But in both cases you have to take care of the machine or it won’t take care of you.
So there. Phbbbbt!
