What a piece of work is a stupid fucking liberal gun-hating functionally-illiterate bitch from Fishers.

The bill in question has nothing to do with carrying guns in schools. It has to do with whether or not it should be legal for a gun to be locked in a car parked in a school parking lot. I believe the bill also calls for the gun to be stored in such a way that it is not visible from outside the car.

Look, I have no problem with principled opposition to what I think is a reasonable compromise, but the first rule of principled opposition is that the opposition needs to fairly and correctly characterize the thing to which they are in opposition. Simply throwing a complete fabrication of the issue out there is not playing by the rules of rational discourse.

More importantly, no law is going to stop a bad actor from violating that law. I can assure you that law-abiding gun owners will follow the law, no matter what it is, even if it is inconvenient or fails any kind of rationality test.* I can also assure you that the next school shooting rampage will be committed by a bad actor who doesn't care one little whit about what the law says. Both of those assurances are based on the standard definition of "law-abiding", so they follow logically.

When we're all in agreement that laws only affect the actions of law-abiding people, and otherwise are put in place to ensure punishment for those who disregard and/or disobey them, then we'll be in a lot better place as a society. And I don't care which side of the political spectrum you're on, that is something that all sides ought to be able to agree with.

I grew up in a semi-rural part of Indiana and it was not unusual for kids to come to school after spending the early morning in a tree stand during deer season. There were guns in the car in the parking lot. Every one knew it. No one cared. No one went on a rampage because guns were available.

I wish someone could name a single instance where a law prevented a crime. Murder is against the law, so is robbery yet they occur every second of every day.
