Well, there is a four-foot-deep hole in my front yard and they've reached the wye connector...and found that the sewer pipe is clay, and NOT Orangeburg. So yay us. I told the guys that I'd be willing to bet that my Dad told them "No Orangeburg!" when they built the house...and he would have known all about it, being a chemical engineer. One thing I do know about this house is that all of the 2x4 and 2x3 lumber that was used in it was of decent quality...because Dad would come out here and kick all of the crappy twisted/split ones out and make them replace them.
Sadly, Mom and Dad didn't opt to spend the extra $1K for brick veneer, so we got Masonite siding instead. Yeah, another junk building product that someone should have been sued over. Anyway, I asked once why they didn't splurge on that, because they only paid $16,500 for the house. Dad said, "Well, you have to remember that I was only bringing home about $65 a week back then. Another thousand dollars would have made the mortgage payment more than we could have afforded."
Times do change.
