Sandy Relief Bill Includes $150 Million for Alaska, Gulf of Mexico, New England
This is just wrong. It is part and parcel of what is wrong with our government.
No bill should be allowed to contain anything other than what is specified in its title. That was a feature of the Confederate Constitution that ought to have been adopted by the Union. There should be an absolute ban on larding up "popular" bills with earmark surprises that probably wouldn't fly on their own.
The bottom line is that if you want something from the taxpayers, have the balls to file a separate bill and see if the taxpayers want to support it. This is most of the reason why we find ourselves in the debt-ridden condition from which we currently suffer.
