God save the Republic.

Voted.  Cancelled out my wife's ballot (she refuses to understand -- or discuss -- the issues, and comes from a Eastern Jewish Democrat family, so it's not worth the trouble), which of course means my vote counted for nothing -- except that she didn't vote on the judges because she didn't know whom to vote for.

Which kills me because I've been ranting about Steven David and how he needs to go for two years.

I also got lucky in the one school board race that was contested.  I voted for the man with a single surname rather than the woman with the hyphenated surname, on the general principle that anyone with a hyphenated name is constitutionally inhibited from making decisions.  Sally said that she was the one all the educators she knew were excited about.  So that was a good guess on my part.

And yes, I voted straight ticket Republican.  Sorry for anyone who develops heartburn over a vote for Mourdock.  Abortion should not be a federal issue so I frankly don't give a damn what a congressional candidate thinks about it, except to defederalize it and give the decision back to the states.

I did watch the counter as it clicked over to make sure the machine read my ballot, but now I can't remember how many had already voted.  But I will tell you this:  Turnout in the three precincts that vote in my polling place is significantly lower than it was four years ago when I had to stand in a line that ran out into the parking lot and wrapped around the building.

I can feel the Mittmentum from here.

EDIT TO ADD:  One thing that was particularly odd:  There were exactly ZERO canvassers standing outside the polling place.  I don't know if the cold scared them off or what, but normally there are at least two or three out there trying to foist campaign literature on you as you walk through the door (an ongoing violation of the 50 foot rule that I've ranted about before; they're supposed to be at least 50 feet away from the DOOR, not from the voting machines).  I could get used to that.  Besides which, if you're actually going to the polls without knowing whom you're voting for, you shouldn't be voting anyway.
