Typical hare-brained government scheme.

State governments want to track your car by GPS so they can bill you by the mile.

A state requirement of GPS in your car probably constitutes an unconstitutional intrusion into your private business. So I say fuck that.  If they really want to tax your mileage, just make you report it on your tax return.  Oh, yeah.  People would probably lie about that.  Or not be able to figure out what their starting mileage was last April 15.  Or sold their car in the middle of the year...well, you know where I'm going with this.

Maybe states should balance their budgets by not spending so much money on bullshit welfare programs.  Or by selling the interstates to turnpike companies and charging tolls.  I already have an E-ZPass, not a problem.  I don't mind that the PA Turnpike logs me in and out when I drive to DC or PA (which they've been doing for years anyway, taking pictures of your license plate at the toll booths), at least they're not keeping track of every time I stop to take a leak or have a snack.  And they sure do a damn nice job of keeping the Turnpike maintained and snow-free in the winter.
