and just assuming that "GUNMAN GOES ON RAMPAGE" is shorthand for "NUTBAG WHO GOT THAT WAY BECAUSE OBAMA ECONOMY MEANS NO JOB AND LIKELY EVICTION FROM APARTMENT SHOOTS 4, KILLS 1", since the latter wouldn't fit in the headline space.
The term "gunman" is overused; headline writers who use it and editors who allow it to be used should be slapped silly. John Dillinger? Gunman. Billy the Kid? Gunman. Bonnie and Clyde? Gunman and gunmoll. Professionals, as it were.
This guy? A nutbag who had a gun and thought it could solve a problem.
Simple. Any journalist should be able to figure it out.
