While the .gov is so busy fighting attempts to kill ObamaCare and pulling shit like Fast & Furious to try to con gullible Americans into letting them take away our 2A rights, it doesn't seem to have time to run down RICO convictions on assholes who offer -- in extremely loaded terms -- to sell me what amounts to insurance for my recently-purchased, used-but-new-to-me vehicle.
These criminals send postcards and official-looking "tear off three sides to open" notices with government warnings on them and say things like "IMPORTANT VEHICLE NOTICE" and "Call now to Activate your Vehicle Service Contract!" and "If you choose NOT to take action, you will be FINANCIALLY LIABLE for any repairs that are necessary after your warranty expiration date."
To the latter of which I respond, "No DUH???"
I hate to tell these assholes just how many out of warranty vehicles I've driven in my life, including the one I just traded in that started out with a 7 year - 70,000 mile factory warranty (which ran out about four years before I traded it). Of COURSE I'm "financially liable" for repairs to such vehicles. By that logic, I'm "financially liable" for buying a new dishwasher because the one I helped my Dad install here when I was a teenager has been out of warranty for 40 years. "Liable" is such a loaded word, isn't it?
Of course the funniest thing about the several offers I've received for these third-party warranty extensions is that apparently they didn't get the memo from the bank that I assume sold them my name and address that I also purchased a FACTORY warranty extension for the vehicle when I bought it. (Or they got it from the BMV, which of course wouldn't have that information at all.)
So fuck off, Endurance Warranty Services and whatever other names you fly under. I've got your number. And now I'm shredding it.
What I hate are the mailers I keep getting trying to refinance our mortgage. I'd love to do that, but I don't think there is a point in doing so yet. And I'm sure if I went with the guys who send the mailers out we'd pay so much in closing costs that there is no point.
Although I suppose the phone phishers from Card Services are the worst.
