There's some talk in this thread at Tam's regarding old-style automobile light controls etc.
The new-to-me 2009 Ford Escape Limited (which was featured in one of the recent posts here that got munched when Hosting Matters switched me over to the new server about a week ago) has probably the most unbelievably complicated console I have ever seen short of an airliner cockpit, let alone in an automobile:
In some ways, it's a damned good thing this car has Sync, because trying to operate the audio system while driving could be very dangerous indeed. On the other hand, the Sync AI has a very hard time understanding "Play Album Nine Oh One Two Five"* -- which I tried to do yesterday while driving downtown. So then I asked it to "Play Artist Yes". Eventually it managed to parse this as "Greatest Hits", and the next thing I knew, I was listening to 1980's Journey anthems instead of quirky Yes tunes...
* Yes, as a matter of fact, I did originally write "Nine Oh Two One Oh" there. Sue me -- I had a massive brain fart. If you'd had my day, you probably would have made the same mistake....
My Sync has no issue playing Yes, but that album is not among my favorites. I am far more likely to have the old iPhone play Yessongs, The Yes album or Fragile. But I love, love, love my Sync in my Fusion and my wife loves it on her escape.
Oh, I love it too. I just thought it was a riot that it couldn't parse the numbers. Although maybe it was me. I have this tendency to mumble sometimes :)
