"It used to be that the notion of a free country included rights to property."

Jerry Pournelle has some thoughtful comments about one Elizabeth Warren, running for Congress in Scott Brown's district of Taxachussetts. Starting with: "[S]ocial contracts aren’t Constitutions." And ending with

The problem here is that Ms. Warren invites the rich to “worry that marauding bands would come and seize everything at your factory, and hire someone to protect against this.” The marauding bands will be tax collectors. The someone to protect against this will be lobbyists. That’s if we are lucky.

If we aren’t lucky, we can look at contemporary Mexico as a model for the future. Or perhaps Russia under the nomenklatura. Or maybe we will be partly lucky and we’ll only get Greece.

Read everything in between.

UPDATE TO ADD: More good responses to Ms. Warren here.

I've been tempted to complain about Scott Brown being a RINO. He's clearly far to the right of Martha Coakley or Elizabeth Warren. Every time Ms. Warren opens her mouth, I'm tempted to send a campaign contribution to Scott Brown.

In many ways a RINO is preferable to a progressive. In the referenced race it is probably the best of all possible outcomes, given that even the Right in Massachusetts trends to the Left.

We can live with a few RINOs if we can get rid of the progressives, socialists, and out-and-out communists that litter our political structure and replace them with real Constitutionalist conservatives.
