I keep reading columns and articles regarding the London riots where the authors assert that the Brits "don't have the right" to bear arms in self-defense.

That is just plain sloppy journalistic bullshit.

That the right is God-given and not controlled by governments of men was recognized by the Founders in our Constitution when they stated not that government bestowed the right, but rather, that the government could not infringe upon the right, which clearly (to them anyway) pre-existed.

If our law is based on the English common law, then clearly we recognized something in that law that's been lost for the last x number of years in Britain.

Say that the Brits have been forbidden to bear arms in self-defense, or that the government has infringed their right. But never, ever say that they don't have the right to begin with.
