our legislators think that any nuke plant we might build today would not have any technological advance over the reactors built at Fukushima in the 1960's.
And by the way, comparisons to Chernobyl are bullshit because Chernobyl was a design obsolete when it was built that did not have a containment vessel around the reactor. A comparable site without containment vessels operated at Hanford, Washington, for many years in the United States starting in 1944, and was shut down in stages from 1968 to 1971, with one final reactor being decommissioned in 1987. While there were and remain environmental issues at Hanford, there was never any real chance of any of the Hanford reactors going Chernobyl.
Modern reactor designs, particularly the liquid-fluoride thorium reactor, are intended to fail safely. I can't imagine that any reactor built in Indiana today would not be of this type. Certainly we would not be talking about building obsolete Fukushima-type reactors!
Our legislators are being bombarded by bad information from the media and the left who are bound and determined for the US to sink to Third World status. Voice of sanity need to speak up and point out why the media and the left are wrong.
"our legistlators think..."
There's your problem!
