I see in this morning's fishwarp that after having imposed a wage freeze last year because the legislature cut university funding, IU President Michael McRobbie is proposing a 3% wage increase for IU faculty and staff statewide.
My first reaction was, "Fuck that." IU may be my alma mater, and I may have worked there once upon a time, but you don't get raises in this crap economy. (I'm certainly not getting one!) You will not raise my taxes and the tuition of tens of thousands of students (including my wife's) just to make your faculty and staff happy. Fuck that. Fuck you. Suffer with the rest of us peons.
My second reaction was exactly where did he think that money was going to come from? Unicorn farts? If this next legislative session doesn't severely cut spending on stupid shit (and even non-stupid shit), it's going to be tar, feathers, torches, and pitchforks on the steps of the state capitol.
And maybe even on the steps of Bryan Hall.
They'll never get it. Bring plenty of rope.
