Anyone using Trillian 3.x for instant messaging has probably been unable to log in since yesterday. (The new beta product, Astra, is apparently unaffected.)
See here for a patch.
AIM and ICQ ought to both be open protocols. Fuck AOL, the assholes, and fuck their goddamn ICQ 6.5 software, too, which is going to be uninstalled immediately.
(Edited to fix title...I had originally said "error 27".)
Have to agree 100%, used to swear by ICQ but it became so bloated it's hard to recall what a great efficient program it was... till you look at Trillian 3.x and see something similar to ICQ at it's best but with added compatibility to other networks.
Strangely enough this error only occurred on one of my two trillian installations and they were the same versions.. but the patch fixed it anyhow.
Ops guy at work said, "I'm not having a problem with mine."
I said, try disconnecting and reconnecting...but wait till the end of the day just in case :)
He said, yeah, that's what he was going to do.
Next morning: "Trillian wouldn't reconnect after I disconnected. You were right. It must have happened sometime yesterday morning." (I didn't get in till about 10AM on Tuesday because of an eye exam.)
I figure it had something to do with the login phase and if you were already connected you were fine until you disconnected.
My main problem with ICQ is all the ads and the obvious blatant attempt to make it "kid-friendly" instead of admitting and accepting the fact that there are a lot of adults out there using it for business purposes. Trillian really is what ICQ should have been (and was originally if I recall correctly). Then AOL bought ICQ from the Israeli company that wrote it and proceeded to turn it into another AIM, er, absolutely destroy it.
