I saw a map of the murder sites in Silver Spring this morning in the WaPo, and it occurred to me that I lived across the street from one of the killing grounds for a year in 1995 (Shoppers Food Warehouse on Randolph at Georgia; I think this might be in what was the Hechinger’s when I was living there), and I used to shop near two of the others (Aspen Hill and White Flint) and get pizza at the Pizza Hut across the street from a fourth (the Shell station in Kensington). I’m not exactly sure where the Michael’s is because it post-dates when I lived in the area. However, I know the area quite well. I’ve probably bought gas at both the Mobil and the Shell stations involved, and I used to spend a lot of time in the White Flint area (gigantic Borders Books there, also the only CompUSA I know of on that side of town). And in Aspen Hill was the only big-box department store (a K-Mart) for miles around. (I assume this has changed. It was also one of the ugliest, dirtiest, and most disgusting K-Marts I’ve ever seen.)
Makes me glad I telecommute from 600 miles away.
Light if any bloggage this weekend
I need a break. Plus I need to do Mom’s taxes. Plus Sally’s van is on the fritz. So go read some of those other fine people over to the right. I’ll be back Monday.
Here we go…
Stupid Bitch(tm) Cynthia McKinney has filed a lawsuit to be declared the winner of her primary in Georgia.
ATLANTA Arguing that defeated Georgia Rep. Cynthia McKinney was the victim of a “malicious crossover” vote by Republicans, five DeKalb County voters asked a federal court Friday to throw out the results of the primary.
Uh huh.
State officials pointed to the law Friday and said it was clear that Georgia voters can vote for whomever they want in the primaries; there are no restrictions on preferred political party affiliation.
“I am simply unaware of any provision of law that prohibits voters from making a choice as to which party primary they will participate in,” said Chris Riggall, a spokesman for the secretary of state.
You can’t even get a break from your own party:
Attorney General Thurbert Baker, a Democrat, said Georgia’s law “is crystal clear in its guarantee that a voter can walk into a polling place on primary election day and choose a ballot for which ever political party he or she chooses.”
He added, “Georgia’s open primary system has withstood previous legal challenges and I will vigorously defend the Aug. 20 election results.”
Let’s sing it in harmony: YOU CAN’T CHANGE THE RULES AFTER THE ELECTION IS OVER.
Or maybe we should spell it out since the McKinneys seem to like doing it that way so much: You’re S-T-U-P-I-D, Ms. McKinney, you’re O-U-T-A-T-H-E-R-E, and it’s your own F-A-U-L-T.
The difference between Jews and Muslims in Israel…
…is that Israeli Jews would never dream of screwing with Israeli Muslims at Friday prayer. Arabs seem to have a different idea:
JERUSALEM Israeli police stormed the main mosque compound in the heart of Jerusalem and fired stun grenades Friday after Muslim worshippers threw rocks at Jews praying at the Western Wall below, police said.
Your intiFUCKda has failed, fuckwits. I’d advise giving it up before you end up paying dearly for your assholishness. I’m not in the habit of blogging about Israel because I’m not a Zionist and I try to stay out of the argument, but on the other hand, I don’t have any trouble figuring out when a big can of whup-ass is about to be opened on someone who richly deserves it.
Maybe once we whack Saddam the Arabs will SHUT THE FUCK UP. Why do I doubt it?
Sudden thought: Jews were denied access to the Wall — the holiest spot in Judaism — for many years for no good reason other than spite. Why can’t Muslims be denied access to al-Aqsa until they stop acting like children? It’s not like it’s the “holiest spot in Islam” (it’s third-holiest, after Mecca and Medina). (And why don’t monkeys fly out of my butt, as long as we’re talking impossibilities. Gahhh.)
Discrimination? Or prudent protection against ourselves?
Over at Oxblog, Josh Chafetz thinks that the Constitutional provision requiring that only native-born Americans can be President is discriminatory, stupid, and in need of amendment.
I disagree.
Consider the history of the Western World up to the time of the Founders. How many countries in Europe were ruled by non-natives, including not just countries that might have been conquered, but countries whose rulers had been invited to take the throne (William and Mary of Orange who were invited by the English Parliament to come from the Netherlands to be King and Queen, vice the papist James II, come to mind). Certainly their late nemesis George III was almost more German than he was English.
This provision was put in the Constitution to protect us from ourselves and force us to rely on no other nation to provide our Chief Executive and Commander in Chief. It has nothing at all to do with people who immigrated here when they were two and have lived here as naturalized citizens ever since. It has everything to do with keeping adult foreigners from taking (or being given) citizenship and assuming the Oval Office.
Like other folks…
…I’m sometimes intrigued by the Google hits that lead to my site. Here is a sampling from my last 50 hits.
http://www.google.com/search?q=What is the paycheck of a treacher&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&safe=o
Hmm, should that have been “Preacher” maybe? (I don’t think I’ve ever knowingly blogged about Jim Treacher’s paycheck.)
http://www.google.com/search?q=bonior american spectator&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&start=20&sa=N
Well, I do write nasty thoughts about useful fools from time to time. And I love the American Spectator. Especially now that it’s back under new old management.
http://google.yahoo.com/bin/query?p=fuzzy curmudgeon&hc=0&hs=0&ac=
Someone at Eli Lilly in Indianapolis is looking for me online. Wonder who? And more importantly, why? I don’t take any Lilly drugs currently. [Editor note: Yes, that was obfuscated for privacy reasons.]
http://google/search?q=is valery giscard d’estaing a freemason?&ie=ISO-8859-1&hl=en&btnG=Google Search
Interestingly enough I am the ONLY hit returned from that search…and the reason I got hit is because the words “valery giscard d’estaing” and “freemason” occur on my website. Not in any proximity, though.
http://google.yahoo.com/bin/query?p=”The Logan Act”&ac=&b=21
Yeah, I did blog about the Logan Act the other day.
Lots of direct hits from neverwinter.preferred.com, from 194.9.9.5 (which from what I gather from Geektools is an IP in Ireland), and from user2.norton.mec.edu (via Rachel Lucas’s blog).
And the other week I had a gazillion hits from Google searches related to the Maniac Mom from Mishawaka, whose name I refuse to repeat again or I’ll probably start getting whacked again by Google 🙂
Just interesting, is all.
Oho. Oho oho.
The President will address the nation in a major address Monday night.
Now isn’t THAT interesting.
The Game of “Strategery”…
…actually proves that W. ain’t no dummy, regardless of his pronunciations. Read Podhoretz.
(I just want to know, when is the board game coming out?)
Babs investment scandal
Well, not really, unless Dems get wind of it. According to an article linked by my buddy Jeff Naylor, Babs had money in Halliburton (!gasp!) and another little concern that you might find interesting. So go read Jeff.
Why the Libertarian Party is not serious
Look at the kind of candidate it fields.
Haven’t you ever heard of heavy metal poisoning? What the fuck were you thinking? (Oh, wait, he’s a Libertarian candidate…what was I thinking?)
The worst part was that he was apparently too cheap to buy it ready-made, he tried to make it himself by electrolysis. I can’t believe, though, the sheer number of sites that sell colloidal silver and tout it as “nature’s antibiotic”. If this shit were for-real, my doctor would probably have prescribed it by now (I end up on antibiotics about three times a year for bronchitis and other ailments). I know what the tony people say about alternative medicine and how “real doctors” pooh-pooh it, but look folks: maybe there’s a reason for that. At least I don’t have blue skin from taking real antibiotics.
MORE: I just found a site that sells a colloidal silver generator. Here’s their disclaimer:
NOTICE: No claims are made nor implied, with regard to the use of colloidal silver / silver mineral water for medical conditions. Colloidal silver is regulated by the FDA and is not approved as an OTC (over the counter) drug by the FDA.. There is no RDA (Recommended Daily Allowance) established, nor is the need, role or safety regarding nutritional use established. Therefore; we are not implying nor recommending that anyone self diagnose and treat their own illness using silver or other minerals dispersed into water using the Colloid Master or by any other means. For more information about these issues click the “Research” link at the top of this page.
No, I’m not providing the link to the page, just in case a weak-minded Democrat drops by. But doesn’t this tell you something? Even the company selling the stupid machine says they don’t guarantee any results.
