Aw, shit.

Not again.
Maybe the assholes in Congress who want to cut NASA funding for new technologies will think again. The shuttles are 20- to 30-year-old technology. It’s time for something new that eliminates the risk of riding in 20-year-old airframes. If we’re going to be serious about space it’s time to start building serious spacecraft.

  1. actually what i think this tragedy is going to do is spark something of a national debate on “just what is our purpose in space anyways?”
until that question is answered clearly and convincingly, there will be no progress on the question of nasa budget cuts or more money for better space craft.

  2. No shit, Mr. H. That’s exactly what Walter Mondale tried to do after Apollo 1
I can hear the lefties screaming now, “If the government didn’t spend all these billions on the space program there’d be more money available for income redistribution and Democrat vote buying.”

  3. What we spend on space exploration is peanuts compared to what we waste on welfare. It always was. And the returns have always been infinitely better.

  4. Besides, it’s an imperative that man should go to space. It’s the last frontier. Would you have told Columbus not to bother with his voyages of exploration, or Lewis and Clark, or Magellan, or just about any of the usual roster of men (and now women) who have made these discoveries throughout the centuries? Although I suppose greenies and wimpy libs would prefer we were back running around as naked hunter-gatherers, or didn’t exist at all.
However, the fact that we do exist is all the rationale we need to continue to expand our horizons, and all the reason we need to laugh hysterically at those who would scoff at “progress”.
