I promised a picture of the house my father-in-law swears is being built by Swiss drug lords across the canal from their condo. First, some history. This is what the place looked like right after Sally and I got married in September 2000. Gratuitous rainbow picture (on our honeymoon it rained. Every. Flippin’. Day. Arghh), but it’s not a bad looking piece of property. Story went that it was on the market for $600K.
Now, this is what it looked like in May 2005 after the idiots had cut down the “pelican tree” at right and otherwise denuded the yard of any interesting landscape. They also built a massively-ugly dock.
Then, several years ago, after trying unsuccessfully for a while to sell the house, they tore the house down completely. That’s pretty standard in Naples, where the property is actually worth more than the house. And that was a fairly old house by current standards. I thought I had a picture of the empty lot but I haven’t found it yet. Well, OK, here is a picture I took last May after a truly biblical downpour that flooded most of the surrounding streets, in which you can see the property under discussion at the left.
Pretty desolate, eh. Anyway, the in-laws then notified us last winter that someone had bought the place and started building a house. This is what it looked like yesterday before we left:
Voila, Swiss drug lord house.
