Mine was spent closing up the Florida condo, driving to the airport, dropping off the car, going through TSA having my Fourth Amendment rights abused (what a load of security theatre there), flying home, getting the car, loading up, driving home, and then finally collapsing after dragging the luggage inside. (Did you know that it’s FUCKING HOT here? Jeebus. It was cooler in Florida.)
So even if there were fireworks last night, I have no idea what they looked or sounded like.
The end result is that I have one cat sticking to me like glue today and making it nearly impossible to work…
And I will reiterate that, while July 4 is popularly “Independence Day”, in my heart it will always be July 2 — the day the Continental Congress ACTUALLY adopted the resolution “That these United Colonies are, and of Right ought to be Free and Independent States”.
They then sent it out to be engrossed and came back on July 4 to sign it. But the treason (or patriotic act, depending on how you look at it) for which the delegates placed their heads in the noose was already done two days before. John Adams had the right of it.
