They can stick their SEO comment spam up their ass, sideways.
Some of these ranges came from here, but over half are ranges identified by the fact that they’ve comment-spammed here.
Joke ’em if they can’t take a fuck.
UPDATE: Found another one: 89.64.0.0/12 (Poland).
And yes, I’m blacklisting entire IP blocks because I don’t really give a damn if anyone outside the Anglosphere reads this blog.
MORE UPDATE: Just banned a few more:

173.234.0.0/16 (Nobis Technology Group, US!)

Usually, my filters catch the spam, but on occasion one or two of the little bastards will get through.
Sure seems to be a lot of SEO crap coming from a netblock owned by Nobis Technology Group in Dallas.
Don’t ‘s’pose you could drop a nuke on the fuckers from DFW…
Between the capcha and turning on comment moderation for any post more than a few days old, I really cut down on the comment spam.
(I did the latter after I found some rat’s nests of Chinese WoW gold farmers in ancient posts. Oh, and some kids were using an old post’s comment section as their little BBS, which was kinda cool, in a William Gibsonesque sort of way. I felt a little bad about deleting it. 😉 )
Yeah, I need to upgrade to a newer version of MT to add a reliable captcha.
Unfortunately a lot of the SEO spam seems to be coming from live people, so captcha won’t really do much to faze them.
I do turn off comments on posts older than 7 days. There’s an add-in for MT 3 that can handle that but I could never get it to work, so I rolled my own manual script and run it once a day when I remember to do so 🙂
