We just finished a trip to hellandback. Friday night we drove to Fort Wayne and had dinner with our niece and her presumed fiancé. (They were talking about baby names. Yes. Baby names. There may be another wedding in our future, but that is to get ahead of my tale.)
Saturday morning we drove to Detroit. Right f’in downtown Detroit — the Westin Book Cadillac. I settled in, while Sally joined friends at the MGM Grand Casino a few blocks away and broke even. That evening we dressed formally and attended a $100K if it was a dime wedding. My ex-girlfriend’s (and Sally’s “big brother’s”) son was the groom. Fabulous evening. Keep the Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel flowing please; the statins in my liver are excused from duty tonight. (Open bar I might add.) I may have a picture to post later of our sartorial excellence.
Sunday morning bright and early (*wince*), up, breakfast, and out of the hotel by 9AM to drive 8 hours to York, PA, to visit the in-laws. Must be there by dinnertime, decrees wife. We made it. Barely. Excellent dinner 🙂
Monday morning, up bright and early to telecommute to work. Decided to drive to Washington at lunchtime so as to not have to get up early on Tuesday to drive around Baltimore to get to Washington. Stayed in a nice Hilton Garden Inn in Greenbelt overnight.
Tuesday, in the office in Washington. Left at 3PM to miss rush hour in Baltimore. Fat chance. North of I-70, I-695 was crawling if not at a standstill. Once I got on I-83, though, things sped up. Nice dinner with the in-laws at Outback in York.
Today, up bright and early to have breakfast at the Colonial Cafe in York, then on the road for home. 10-1/2 hours later (including a fast trip through Cabelas in Wheeling, WV, where I lusted after guns I couldn’t afford), we hit the doorstep here in Indy.
I have only one major complaint about the entire trip, and that is this: WTF goes on in West Virginia? They have the Wheeling Tunnel shut down completely for repairs, so they’re diverting through traffic around I-470…which is cut down to one lane while they do repairs on the pavement in the other lane. Scheduling does not appear to be the WV DOT’s long suit…

Kel and I will be doing a roadtrip at the end of this month.
A bit longer than yours in miles, much shorter in timeframe, provided the roads aren’t screwed up.
