This is a bad thing?

Nicholas Confessore says that Democrats are a single seat away from disaster, disaster in his mind being total Republican control of the Federal government for two years for the first time since 1929 (including the Supreme Court).
Nick, don’t you get it? This would be a good thing. And for all the reasons you give in your heartfelt piece, including “bankrupting” the Federal government, which sticks its nose in way too many places it isn’t wanted or needed to begin with.
He ends up with this pithy bit: “If the country wakes up on November 6 with a Republican House and Senate, the Democrats may spend the next 20 years wondering why they didn’t.”
Nick, buddy, the Dems are going to lose the election, because they don’t understand that the people in the red states believe in strong defense and a clear national security stance, without which all these domestic issues seem somewhat silly — and because the people in the blue states are starting to come to that conclusion, too. Domestic affairs take a back seat to the possibility of a nuke popping off in New York Harbor or out there under the 14th Street Bridge on the Potomac. I don’t know about you, but I really can’t see how putting more money into education or welfare will keep NYC or DC from being burned to a crisp if Saddam manages to get a working nuke aboard some nondescript Liberian-flagged freighter.
After we bust Saddam’s chops, there will be plenty of time and money for all your pet liberal folderol. Not until.
