One bad thing about the Kindle

The Kindle Store is NOT comprehensive. Too many science fiction series where the first (and sometimes other) books are not available on Kindle. What the hell is the point of making the second and third books of a trilogy available but not the first book?
WTF are the publishers thinking? I mean, come on; I’m paying $6.39 for an e-copy of a paperback that would cost me $7.99. It’s not like you’re losing money on e-books. In fact, I’ll bet your profit margin is higher on e-books than it is on physical ones.
Jeez.
(FWIW, I do realize that this might have to do with older contracts for older books, but I still don’t see the point in making only part of a series available.)
