Illinois Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias is threatening to pull state business from Wells Fargo & Co. unless the bank stops trying to liquidate a company that makes suits for President Barack Obama.

And here I thought the way to keep someone from liquidating a company was to figure out how to make it worth more as an operating business than if it was liquidated.
Without doing this, simply loaning the company more money as Giannoulias is proposing is putting good money after bad. Anyone at his level of responsibility should understand this, even if he is a Democrat.
What gets me is the “makes suits for President Barack Obama” angle.
The problem is, that obfuscates the real issue. The real issue is that the place employs 3000 SEIU union members who probably voted for Giannoulias. So what the whole story comes down to is that the big G is just trying to cover his own political ass.
And he’s doing about as good a job of it as a cat trying to cover his scat on a concrete surface.
A politician trying to cover his own ass? That goes without saying.
On the good news at least he didn’t threaten to have the Illinois Department of Revenue audit the tax returns of every Wells Fargo employee and depositor in the State of Illinois.
