Wellll, maybe the Euro version of the GM car line would sell better in the US. In 2003 I toured the Alps in a rented Opel Omega wagon. Spacious, handled well, clueless about mileage (Kilometerage?) fit in the narrow Italian Alpine roads, something like a Passat.
In 1985 the rented Mercedes 190 got vaporlock frequently in the 3 weeks we were there, and one day at the Dachstein parking lot a German sauntered over to see if he could help. He loosened the gas line, it went Whoosh! and he tightened it back up. He then told us that “Mercedes are no good in the mountains. You know what the best cars are? Gay-EM (GM) But only the gas, not the diesel.” He then walked over to his car with his family waiting inside — a gigantic GM full size wagon.
More on point, I’ll bet all those people in the White House parking lot drink only imported beer, too.
