Creationism: Bullshit that we don’t have time for

Whether or not you believe that schools ought to be teaching creationism right up there alongside the theory of evolution, don’t social conservatives have better things to do than fight (and thankfully, fail) to force schools to teach a curriculum that paves the way to teaching creationism? (Via.)
You can argue that social conservatives have a place in the big tent of conservatism because they stand for the preservation of traditional American culture, which is being attacked by the Loony Left as old-fashioned fuddy-duddy bullshit — regardless of the fact that it served us so well until about 40 years ago.
But social conservatives need to understand that some things simply cannot be legislated or forced on people by government. Schools teach evolution because it is the simplest explanation for the world we find around us, regardless of whether or not there are flaws in the theory. It is a theory, after all. But by the same token, I simply don’t believe the world was created in six 24-hour standard days about 6000 years ago; and I also don’t believe that the Bible was divinely written, although it may well have been divinely-inspired — whatever that means. Furthermore, I don’t believe that the Grand Architect purposefully scattered hundred-million-year-old fossil remains around a 6000-year-old world just to challenge our faith and/or intellect. Indeed, I think claiming otherwise indicates an inability to see the world as it is and disqualifies the believer from being taken seriously on any subject — including how our children ought to be educated in the public schools.
The bottom line is that if social conservatives want to continue to enjoy “big tent” status, they’d better stop this bullshit in its tracks. Live your beliefs, don’t force them on other people. We have much more pressing and immediate problems than whether little Timmy or little Betty are being taught that Templars and T-Rex roamed the earth contemporaneously, or that the thunder lizards died out 65 million years before Jacques de Molay was burned at the stake.
Your time will be much better spent helping to ensure that this country doesn’t end up a socialist banana republic with Demoncraps telling you that the only true church is the Church of The Won. And you don’t do that by forcing school boards to teach creationism in science classes in their schools.
