  1. High-speed rail travel is such a no-brainer that I can’t understand why we weren’t constructing rapid transit railways from the moment the first oil crisis hit back in 1973. The technology has been around for a long time although it’s obviously advanced considerably since that time.
    And speaking of trains, why isn’t more freight shipped by rail? There are more trucks on the road than ever burning up oil, tearing up the highways, and causing accidents.
