Early yesterday morning, shots were fired and two people died in a car crash.
Well, OK, we’re in Indianapolis and the weather is getting warmer. But the details are disturbing.
(UPDATE: Newer IndyStar link.)
Two teens died and five other people were injured early this morning after a disturbance at a 14-year-old’s birthday party triggered a car chase and shootings, police said.
Authorities were looking for a silver SUV occupied by at least two people armed with an assault rifle, said Lt. Doug Scheffel of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
The incident began at a party in the 6400 block of Hoover Road at about 1 a.m., Scheffel said in a news release. According to reports, it was a 14-year-old girl’s birthday party.
First question: What were people with guns doing at a birthday party? Second question: What’s up with a birthday party for a 14-year-old girl [NOTE: later story says it was a 15th birthday party, not 14th] lasting into the wee hours of Sunday morning? Third question: What the FUCK are you assholes doing shooting things up near my wife’s place of employment?
UPDATE: Comments at Indy Undercover indicate that the party was at the Latvian Center, which is actually on 64th Street west of Hoover. Still too damn close for comfort, and still smack in the middle of a residential area.
Two cars left the party, chased by the armed suspects in the SUV, who fired on the cars.
One vehicle, a black Ford with five occupants, slammed into a tree in the 5200 block of Grandview Drive. Police aren’t sure if anyone in the car was shot, but two people died as a result of injuries in that crash. Another was hospitalized in critical condition and two were in good condition.
The second car, a red Toyota, also crashed. The driver of that vehicle, an 18-year-old man, was shot in the back of the head. His female passenger was hit in the thigh. Both were reported in good condition.
Is it me or does this sound gang-related?
Police identified those killed as Armando Diaz, 16, and Fausto Ramon Lopez, 18, both of Indianapolis. The other victims were not immediately identified pending notification of relatives.
Oh, yeah. It’s gang-related.
Authorities asked anyone with information about the incident to contact Detective Jeff Wagers at (317) 327-3475 or to call Crime Stoppers at 262-TIPS.
Please do. And if you live in our neighborhood, kindly lock and load. I know I have, because calling 911 is a waste of time out here. (Sorry, Jim.)
Time to start seriously considering my Mossberg 500 purchase.
