Jewish Reform Movement is Full of Shit

Reform Presses U.S. to Increase Role in Peace Process
Group Urges More Balance From Congress

WASHINGTON – America’s largest synagogue movement is urging the White House to step up its peace efforts in the Middle East and criticizing Congress for passing one-sided pro-Israel resolutions.

This is why I am no longer a Reform Jew.
Oh, this is rich:

[T]he movement’s new policy statements mark a major break from the unqualified support that almost all major Jewish organizations have voiced for the alliance between Sharon and President Bush. Liberal activists stressed the importance of such sentiments being officially voiced by the leadership of the Union for Reform Judaism, which says it represents 900 congregations and 1.5 million followers.
“It is a hugely significant development, because this is the largest group of affiliated Jews in America,” said Lewis Roth, assistant executive director of Americans for Peace Now, which has criticized Sharon for failing to do more to pursue an agreement. “It makes you question who represents the majority view of America’s Jews.”

It ain’t Reform, moron. There are something like 6 million Jews in the US. Reform accounts for 25% of them, if we can believe what they’re telling us. Since when is 25% a majority? And how many of that 25% actually agree with this spew coming from their movement? Remember that Jews don’t have figures analogous to, say, the Pope, his Cardinals, and their Bishops. The Reform movement is much more like an alliance of independent, democratic congregations than it is a Mother Church. Any congregation has the right to tell the main movement that it’s full of crap. (In fact, they can do it every 2 years at the Biennial Convention of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations, to which I was a delegate twice back in the 1980’s.)

“I am thrilled to hear the Reform movement coming out with this position because I think the whole Jewish community has disengaged from the issue” of the peace process, said Kenneth Bob, president of the Labor Zionist Alliance.

“Labor Zionist” is code for “ComSymp Socialist”. In other words, anti-war idiots.
These people are fools if they think making Israel sit down at the table YET AGAIN is going to do anything but give hope to the Paleostinians that they’ll be able to pull one over on Israel YET AGAIN.
It’s time to stop talking and start acting. If not now, when?
