OK, but why isn’t there word one in there about rebuilding our rail system?
Trains are cheaper than planes and a hell of a lot more efficient than thousands of cars on the road. And I keep telling anyone who will listen that it’s damn hard to drive a train into the side of a building. Locomotives could also be designed burn coal cleanly, or they could run off electricity (thus indirectly burning coal). Today’s Diesel locomotives are actually Diesel-electrics, you know — the Diesel engine turns a dynamo or alternator that powers electric motors on each wheel.
But first: Sell Amtrak to Southwest Airlines and remove the requirement to make all the stops in podunk little towns, and let them reopen old lines that have been shut down. I’ll bet they’d make a mint.
