It’s rather obvious that this bill, like the jobs bill is not intended to pass. It’s intended to feed class warfare, pure and simple.
If this or the jobs bill were intended to pass, Obama would have gotten a Democrat member of Congress to introduce them.
I don’t think they’re that subtle.
Ed Morrissey, via Instapundit: “Penn wonders why Obama didn’t think to work with House Republicans on deficit reduction, but he might have asked why Obama didn’t bother to work with Senate Democrats on the jobs bill, either. The White House apparently forgot to consult with its own allies in the upper chamber when writing the rerun of the 2009 stimulus bill, only to discover to their embarrassment that it won’t pass the Senate.”
I really don’t think this bunch does subtle. I think it does stupid really well, though.
They are clearly pandering to their base. That is the 47% of people who don’t pay taxes. I don’t have a clue which way the Laffer Curve slopes around the point of our current maximum income tax rate. I do know this much, here are two things that are always true about tax rate changes with regard to the Laffer Curve. No tax cut, except on to a zero rate ever costs as much as static analysis predicts. No tax increase ever brings in as much revenue as static analysis predicts.
Pandering to their base, yes. Trying to make Republicans look bad when it doesn’t pass — I don’t think so…or they’d already have the Senate in their pocket. But even the Senate Democrats see that this won’t work.
And you’re right about tax cuts — pure Reaganomics there.
