A friend alerted me to $99 HP TouchPads being blown out at Best Buy. He was at work so we (the wife and I) went over this ayem to get him one. Turned out that they were out of the $99 one but had a few of the $150 ones left. So we got in line and bought one each — one for my friend, one for me. I think we got the next to the last two in Indy…
It is actually kind of useful, even for a device that is being nuked by the manufacturer. I’m writing this post from it, in fact. My guess is that HP could have sold millions of them if they’d lowered the price point from $449 to the $299 range.
One of the guys in line said he hoped HP would open-source WebOS so development could continue. I sort of doubt that will happen.

The insanity has started. I saw a 32GB model on eBay just now, marked “COLLECTIBLE!”, priced $1,199.99. That’s an 800% markup over the “firesale” pricing from yesterday.
Some people have no shame.
A more likely event than the open sourcing of WebOS is that the TouchDroid project will actually succeed in porting Android to the TouchPad
I agree. But IMHO it remains to be seen if WebOS is down for the count.
