How convenient.
(However, I do like Frank James’ take. Also V-man’s. With regard to the latter, I took one look at that picture in the fishwarp and thought, “huh. Where’d Zero get the flash mob ‘shortly before midnight’?”)

I supposed that when you’re part of a shadowy globe-spanning conspiracy, it’s only natural to assume everyone else is, too. :p
Maybe they just went to party in front of the White House because they were happy Osama’d been smoked? Kinda like the people who were partying in Times Square or at Ground Zero?
I dunno…but I do think something a little more solemn and introspective would have been more to the point.
The picture in the paper looked like the Paleos celebrating after 9/11. I thought we were better than that.
The scenes from Ground Zero reminded me more of VJ Day, actually…
Well, I am pretty much a grouch, you know 🙂
You know…the other thing, Tam, is that this wasn’t VJ Day. We haven’t won yet. Bin Laden’s ignominious end certainly gives satisfaction, but it isn’t “mission accomplished”.
And since the story goes that the news channels got two hours’ warning that there would be an announcement from the White House, it sure makes me wonder how much of that two hours was being used to notify regime supporters that there was going to be a party at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue that night.

Oh, I know. But if Hitler had been put down by OSS raiders instead of suicide, I think there would have been a ticker tape parade and a couple MoH’s even if the war did drag on, no?
(Oh, and how come they’re only “regime supporters” when they’re from the other party? ;))
I dunno…’cause it sounds good? 🙂
My guess is that we’d have never found out it was OSS raiders in Hitler’s day 🙂 At least not until years later.
