I do not think it means what you think it does.
Apparently little Johnny Cougar thinks there is “a constitutional pledge to finance the protection and well-being of American citizens and added his view that the protection part is never a problem, but the well-being is.”
Funny, little Johnny Cougar…I don’t see that pledge anywhere in the Constitution. “Promote the general Welfare” does not mean “redistribute the wealth”. Unless of course it’s your own wealth you intend to redistribute. Otherwise keep your grubby mitts off of mine.

  1. I’ve never been impressed by Mellencamp. His music varies from “eh, it’s all right” to “okay, that’s halfway decent”, and unfortunately that’s the high point of his accomplishments.
    (Says the cubicle monkey who’s younger than his career. Whatevs; I stand by my opinions.)
