But the problem with threatening a Constitutional convention is that Congress might call the states’ bluff.
Such a convention would be the worst thing we could do right now. The states ought to be forcing Congress to follow the Constitution we have, not trying to rewrite the damn thing — and there is no such thing as a “limited” Constitutional convention. If there were, we’d still be operating under the Articles of Confederation as amended in 1787.
Never forget: The Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia in 1787 far overstepped its authority as delegated by Congress. That we honor it and the Founders today is a mark of how bad the Articles were and how wise and forward-thinking the Founders were. Their Convention was nothing short of a peaceful revolution, and they were lucky to persuade the states to adopt its results.
Again: There is nothing wrong with the Constitution that actually following it will not fix.
