Something phoney going on

We lost our AT&T landline phone service yesterday in the storm.
I submitted a repair ticket online this morning. But apparently AT&T can’t promise they’ll find our lost service until Saturday.
Good thing we don’t depend on it for much of anything.
(Why do we keep it? Same number for over 30 years…don’t trust Comcast to deliver reliable phone service…need landline for alarm system…and I can give it out to people I don’t want to have my cell number and ignore it when they call 🙂 Phone service here has been out so infrequently in the 50 years my family has owned this house that I can probably count the number of times it’s happened on one hand. It was even live during the several multi-day power outages we’ve had in that time…)
UPDATE, 1PMish: That was fast. Got tone again. Also still have the awful buzz in the line that I’ve isolated to their side of the NID, but I’ll live with that till I’m finished rewiring all the phones in Cat 3 and getting rid of all the crap phone wire in the attic.
(Why Cat 3? I like Cat 3 better than Cat 5 for phones. All of the Ethernet wiring I’m running, though, is Cat 5e. I see no point in running Cat 6 in a residence.)

  1. I use AT&T for the net and our cell phones. It got to the point that the only people who’d call us on our landline was sales calls.
Needless to say, we ditched it two years ago and it hasn’t affected our lives one bit.
Well, our dinner is no longer interrupted.
