Does the man not have anything else to do?

Airlines Should Pay Bumped Passengers More, White House Says
The Obama administration on Wednesday proposed sweeping changes to protect U.S. air travelers, including raising the amount airlines have to compensate passengers bumped from full flights to as much as $1,300.

The Øbama administration should fuck the hell off, leave private enterprise alone to handle its own problems, and stop trying to change the subject — which is the sheer and utter incompetence of the man in the Oval Office and his cronies in Congress.
They have no concept of cause and effect. Are the airlines supposed to shit this extra $1,300 per bumped passenger? Or harvest it off the trees around the airports? Or raise ticket prices to cover yet another unfunded government mandate?
You get one guess.
Oh, and WTF?

The Department of Transportation must solicit comment on rules for 60 days, but barring changes, the proposals become final in six months.

This is the kind of regulatory bullshit we need to put a stop to. Nobody votes, it just gets proposed* and magically becomes the law if nobody changes it or withdraws it. Nobody can be held responsible (and thus nobody can be tarred, feathered, and run out of town on a rail in consequence). This is WRONG.

  1. You got that exactly right. Ultimately this is going to drive up the price of an airline ticket. Which will mean fewer people fly. That will of course drive tickets prices up. Which will mean even fewer people fly.
