Was reading the Fishwrap this evening for lack of anything else lowbrow (I try to save the collegiate-level-and-above stuff for bedtime), and was idly perusing the article about the church in Louisville that’s going to have a take-yer-shootin’-arn-to-church day* (nothing wrong with that, as I believe strongly that the good Lord fights on the side with the heaviest artillery), when my eyes landed on the last paragraph.
“Firearms can be evil and they can be useful,” [the church’s pastor] said. “We’re just trying to promote responsible gun ownership and gun safety.”
NO, GOD DAMN IT!
Firearms are NOT evil. Firearms are cold steel, wood, and plastic. They have no feelings, no thoughts, no LIFE. They do not randomly go off without someone’s booger hook on the bang switch. Ipso facto they CANNOT be evil in any intrinsic or integral way.
But SOME PEOPLE (f’r’instance) are evil, and sometimes EVIL PEOPLE use firearms.
It does law-abiding shooters absolutely no good when otherwise-well-meaning people anthropomorphize our weapons, and it just hands the anti-gunners more ammunition to use against us.
ARGHHHH.

* It says something (and nothing good) about our local fishwrap that I could not find this page A7 story on its website, but had to search MyWay until I found it on the Louisville Courier-Journal’s website.
