As I was telling the folks at the range, I haven’t shot for years. I know I haven’t been to the range since before my dad died in 2002, and I can’t remember how long before that was the last time we went. (The 1911 was his, not mine.) So taking down the 1911 for cleaning was an adventure, considering I haven’t done that for years. I only wish I’d done so before I shot it today — echh. But the gun shot very well, no problems at all, thank you John Browning (PBUH).
That said, I couldn’t get it all the way down — the barrel link didn’t seem to want to flip over far enough to pull the barrel out of the slide. So I will have to take it down again when I get a chance and see if I can figure out why; maybe there’s some crud in there that I didn’t see. But the gun is definitely cleaner than it’s been for a while.
