Sudden realization

I’ve been going to the DC Metro area every few months for years, and it just dawned on me that I have NEVER seen an interstate exit beggar anywhere in the area. Lots of panhandlers in downtown DC, but nobody hanging out at the interstate exits, or on major intersection medians, or anything like that.
Either they have better laws about that shit in the MD/DC/NOVA area than we do, or there just aren’t that many “homeless” people there — which this might have something to do with.

  1. Here I must disagree with you. There aren’t enough MetroRail cars or Metro buses in the DC metro area to carry all the politically-correct people in the region to work and back.
I think it’s actually more a case of “if you stop, you get run over”. Driving in DC during rush hour is an exacting game that only the best can win. It always takes me a week or so to climb down from “DC driving mode” when I get home. (Interestingly enough, it only takes a few seconds to get into “DC driving mode” when I get there…)

  2. You could be right. I’ve always avoided driving in the DC Metro Area whenever possible. The first and last time I did it, after I finally found a place to park, I walked past a Metro Rail stop on my way to my destination. And this was in Northern Virginia.
