Mmm….Deli.

I have pontificated in this space in the past regarding Jack’s Deli in Cleveland, with regard to my opinion that they have the

Best. Corned Beef. Ever. Puts Shapiro’s to shame, plus it’s a sit-down restaurant — not a cafeteria like Shapiro’s. Closer to home than 3G’s Deli in Delray Beach, Florida, too, which also puts Shapiro’s to shame 🙂

Since Shapiro’s abandoned the North Side to move to classier and more expensive digs in Carmel, all us Jews here have not had much in the way of deli unless we travelled long distances to get it. Shapiro’s has long lived on its reputation, fairly earned in the early days, but in my opinion it has not lived up to that reputation for the past ten or fifteen years.
Comes now Stanley’s Deli, the latest entrant in the “can we compete with Shapiro’s” contest. From the look of their menu, it would appear that “Yes They Can”. Indeed, they appear to be more like Jack’s in Cleveland than anything Shapiro’s ever aspired to.
And that has the potential to make me very, very happy. We’ll see how their corned beef is in a few days.
