Done with the Star’s sports page

OK, today I’m officially done reading anything the Gannett Star’s sports page has to offer.
Bob Kravitz (makes you think of “craven”, doesn’t it?) has his panties in a bunch claiming that we’re all a bunch of racists because we all can’t believe Helio Castroneves could possibly be guilty of tax evasion, but all think Michael Vick is the scum of the earth because he invested in dogfighting.
May I remind Mr. Craven Asshole that Michael Vick WAS CONVICTED of investing in dogfighting.
May I further remind Mr. Craven Asshole that in this country, at least until the Democrats take over, one is INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY…and even given that, it was pretty damn clear that Vick was guilty, regardless of the color of his skin.
In my way of thinking, and given the paucity of details regarding the Castroneves case that the Gannett Star provided yesterday, it sure sounds like Castroneves’ sister and business manager probably pulled a fast one on Helio — a fast one along these lines:

HELIO: Are you sure that’s a safe and legal investment? I wouldn’t want the tax people on my ass about this. I mean, I can afford to pay taxes, I make millions of dollars a year.
SISTER AND BUSINESS MANAGER: Sure, it’s legal and it will make you tons of money tax-free.
HELIO: Well, if you’re sure.
SISTER AND BUSINESS MANAGER: We’re sure.
After HELIO leaves:
SISTER AND BUSINESS MANAGER: We’re going to clean up on this, and screw the IRS. Word!

I mean, they were probably going to invest Helio’s money in condo flipping in the Bahamas or something and pocket the extra profit without Helio ever getting wise. Greed happens, I mean, look at people who get scammed by the Nigerians.
But Michael Vick…well, where do you start? Offshore investment is a time-honored tax dodge and can even be legal if done properly. But what the fuck is legal about investing in proscribed “sporting” events with defenseless dumb animals? Vick got what he deserved, in spades, and I’d say the same thing about him if he were white. Or Brasilian. Or Asian. Or a woman.
How is giving Helio the benefit of the doubt racist, Mr. Craven Asshole, Sports “Editor” of the Gannett Star?
Fuck a bunch of you. Go back to Denver where you came from. The great Bob Collins, risen enzombified from the grave, would still make a better sports editor than you.

  1. That same BS made it into the Muncie Gannett Star as well, and I was amazed.
Just for giggles, let’s say Helio is guilty as charged. I still don’t have as big a problem with him as I do Michael Vick. It has nothing to do with Vick being black, it has everything to do with his being a scumbag who promotes dog fights.
I love dogs, I hate the IRS. I think people like Helio Castroneves pay far too much to the government, and I think dog fighting is as repulsive an activity as there is.
If Helio were black and Michael Vick were white, I’d still give Helio the benefit of the doubt and wouldn’t care if Michael Vick tripped and fell into the middle of one of his beloved dog fights.
Pulling the race card over something like this is pathetic, as is Gannett.
