I just went downtown to the recorder’s office, and I have to say, I was made to feel like a felon when I entered the building.
It wasn’t just take everything metallic out of my pockets to run through the X-ray machine, it was take off my belt, too. And my coat. And the folder with my documents (what do they think I have in there, a paper-thin knife?).
It’s God-damned humiliating and it needs to stop. The courts need to be moved into their own, completely-separate building so that citizens with legitimate non-court business can go about that business without being treated like they’re guilty without a trial.
Mr. Ballard, tomorrow you will be sworn in. Are you listening?

I have to go down there occasionally. Thank God my ID allows me to avoid all of that nonsense. They only difference between going in there and going to jail is that you avoid the body cavity search and being sprayed for lice.
