Apparently the Opus comics by Berke Breathed for the next two Sundays are being “censored” by most of the newspapers that run it.
This is not exactly a loss, in my opinion. Breathed hasn’t really been funny since Bloom County folded.
Now if they’d just censor the rest of the political cartoons out of the comics page, I’d be happy. And yes, that includes Mallard Fillmore. The comics page is supposed to be for entertainment, not for political indoctrination. And political messages don’t make up for shit drawing, either.
(Then of course there’s the abysmal Pearls for Swine…which is probably outlawed in Arizona schools.)
H/T, Instapundit.
UPDATE, 8/25: Perhaps not surprisingly, the objection comes from the Religion of Peace.
Can’t imagine why.

Agreed. The comics are supposed to be funny, pure and simple. Political cartoons belong on the editorial page.
Interestingly enough, the Gannett Star-Press ran the strip. I found it neither terribly amusing nor worthy of censorship.
Yeah, I was somewhat stunned that the Gannett Star ran it, too. I was just about to post on that when I saw your comment waiting to be published 🙂
But I had the same reaction…where’s the beef?
