I don’t understand

The Star yesterday printed an article about how an assailant’s DNA from a recent parking garage abduction/robbery/rape case had been found in the victim’s car.
I’m not sure I understand the excitement over this, unless it’s just a chain of evidence thing linking the rapist to the stolen car. I mean, did the police not do a rape kit on the woman who got raped? There was no indication in the article as to why this was a break in the case, which on balance is probably just indicative of how bad the Star’s writers are these days.
I’m sure one or two of my police-type friends will weigh in on this 🙂
Oh, and by the way, citizens, this is disgusting:

She yelled for help and ran to drivers of two vehicles behind her car waiting to use the ATM, police said, but neither offered assistance. She screamed for bank workers to help, and they let her inside to call 911, police said. The suspect drove away in the woman’s car.

Good for the Chase employees who let her in. Bad on the drivers who refused to help.
