Tech is not always the answer

An AP article in the Star today says that “A cockpit warning system used by only a few commercial airlines might have prevented the deadly Comair jet crash last weekend if the plan had been equipped with the $18,000 piece of technology, a former top federal safety official says.”
Yeah, and I’m betting a lighted sign that said “WARNING – YOU ARE NOW ENTERING A 3500 FOOT RUNWAY – THE 7000 FOOT RUNWAY IS TO YOUR RIGHT” would have done just as well or better, and cost a hell of a lot less.
Takes a fed to come up with the most expensive way to do something.
