National Religious Party leaves Sharon government in protest
The National Religious Party’s central committee voted to quit the ruling coalition, placing Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s government in dire need of new coalition partners.
The nearly unanimous decision goes into effect Tuesday at 7 p.m. The resignation of MK Zvulun Orlev, Ministor of Labor and Social Affairs, goes into effect Thursday night.
Knesset Member Shaul Yahalom said: “Now is the time to leave because the Likud rebels are at the height of their power. From now on, staying in the government only strengthens Sharon,” he told Channel One TV.
