What’s wrong with Israel

Un-kosher store raises controversy
I don’t even need to reproduce the article here. The headline says it all. This encapsulates what is wrong with Israel: It’s a theocratic state, run by a small minority of ultra-orthodox Jews who are dragging the country down because they can’t see past the blinders imposed by Jewish law.
And we worry about Sharia law in Western countries. As I have stated before, the best thing to happen in Israel right now would be a military coup followed by the imposition of a new, US-style constitution and federal government.
Israelis need to focus on what’s really important. Someday there will be leisure for worrying about what’s kosher and what’s not. There isn’t time for that right now.
And I say that in the face of (or, hmm, more likely because of) my recent change of heart in regard to my belief in Israel’s future. When someone you love is living there, suddenly your perceptions change.
