Why DC should not be a state

Constitutionally, of course, it’s not allowed to be, nor did the Founders ever intend for it to be.
In this vein, Dave Kopel and Paul Blackman have written a nice analysis of the “taxation without representation” issue DC politicians blather about continuously, and have found that what DC politicians really want is not taxation of themselves with representation, but taxation of non-residents without representation. As they put it, “The ‘taxation without representation’ motto on the D.C. license plates represents not protest but policy.”
Excellent article.
