Here's a patent idea for somebody.

Why can't somebody come up with a hermetically-sealed sports watch that the user sets via Bluetooth or a standard 802.11 wireless connection?

My wife would love something like that that she could wear in the pool. And I'll bet plenty of random athletes and even non-athletes would use them because the setting buttons and so forth wouldn't get choked with salty sweat residues. The problem Sally has has more to do with the fact that watches marked "water resistant to 10m" or suchlike simply don't last in daily constant use in the pool -- probably because the chlorine eats the rubber/silicone/whatever gaskets away.

Sports watch manufacturers need to think hard about this. Sealed. 5-year solar rechargable battery like my Citizen Eco-Drive watch has. Wireless interface for setting the time, downloading stored data points, etc. (Wireless interface MUST support encrypted security standards and MUST be restricted to peer-to-peer connectivity -- no infrastructure.) The only real problem would be how you would change the display when away from your computer, since we don't want external buttons that would require putting holes in the otherwise-sealed case.

I would think this would also be great for dive watches.
